Freeware Game Pick: Mind Jolt (Matt Scorah)

mindjolt.PNG
It’s the weekend, so how about some bullet-hell blasting? Mind Jolt is a fairly intense arena shooter based around a story involving Cold Fusion - it’s a demake of a game by Ted Lauterbach.

It’s quite tame to begin with, but don’t let that fool you - by level 7, you’ll be dodging all over the place as strangely shaped enemies duck and weave around you, spraying lasers in your general direction. The way each bad guy is made up of lots of pieces attached together reminded me a lot of Captain Forever - including the fact that each one has a core piece which must be destroyed to kill a baddie.

Week 12: Pageant of the Transmundane

Researchers in Texas have discovered that certain people love Apple and their products so much that they display the same behaviors as religious followers. Like that is news to anyone.

But it seems we have a new milestone, as far as I remember. Yes, we have a winner who has won this award two weeks in a row. As you know, it takes a lot to up the ante and win this prize more than once in a short succession, let alone win it twice in a row. But that is what has happened. Calvin’s Canadian Cave of Coolness has done just that.

Last Saturday, Kal posted a video which has been making the rounds this week: Ron Livingston covering Keyboard Cat. It is just surreal, and it was nigh unbeatable this week.

Trailer: Blocks: The Devilish Delivery Game (Darkwind Media)

Blocks: The Devilish Delivery Game is a physics-based puzzler/racer in which you carry crates around levels on a hovering platform. The box must be taken all the way to the end, but there are plenty of obstacles along the way to impede your progress.

The general look and feel of Blocks reminds me a lot of Ludosity Interactive’s Bob Came in Pieces, which is a good thing. Being able to control the two thrusters separately is a nice touch, although it’s one of those elements where depending on how well it’s implemented, it could either be really good fun or frustratingly difficult.

Tornadoes in Alaska - Episode 1

Hey everybody!  I am excited to announce a new feature for the blog I am participating in.  Earlier this week on Thursday, Keith from RespawnAction and I recorded our very first podcast!  It was a joint podcast, and we hope it will continue to be a joint effort from both of us moving forward.

The podcast is titled, Tornadoes in Alaska(yes it’s random!), and we are tagging it as a gaming news podcast.  We are hoping to bring two new podcasts to you every week.  We plan on recording the shows every Tuesday and Thursday, and they should be uploaded soon after recording…which means the news we cover should be pretty current, and fresh(like my coffee!), for all of you listening to them.
